Counselors in local schools are celebrating National School Counseling Week this week.
The theme for the celebration is "School Counselors: Exploring Human Potential."
Derenda Holland, counselor at Cape Girardeau Central Junior High School, said the purpose of the week is to focus on the accomplishments of the counseling program and to recognize the significant contributions of other educators and members of the community.
As part of the local celebration of National School Counseling Week, counselors have planned activities to involve students, parents, teachers and members of the community.
For example, at the junior high tonight, counselors will talk with the school's PTA members about "Parents as Navigators." Counselors will also present pre-enrollment information.
On Thursday, a "Counselor Celebration" will be held at the Vocational School highlighting the theme, "Exploring Human Potential."
