The Cape Girardeau City Council will decide the fate of a local insurance company's attempt to relocate.

Glynn Robison, owner of Robison Insurance Agency, 353 Christine, wants to move the business to 1511 Bloomfield Street, a residential area.

Originally, he wanted to put a sign in the area, but thought it best to just put a sign above the glass door of what he hopes will be his new office. He said there has been no opposition to the possibility of rezoning the area.

"The neighbors sent in letters of recommendation," Robison said. "They don't have any problems."

Also on the docket is an attempt to clean up some of the laws regarding truck parking and commercial traffic.

Some of the laws in Cape Girardeau make it illegal for a truck that is rated at a one ton or more capacity to drive through a park. Another law prohibits trucks with a rating of one ton and a half when they park on city streets at certain times.

By law trucks can only travel on designated routes through town. The law prohibits trucks that have a gross weight in excess of 24,000 pounds from traveling on roads that are not part of the truck routes.

The language of the parking laws and the traffic laws are different. The police department is requesting that the city council use the language in both the traffic and the parking laws. This means they want the weight requirements in the parking laws to be 24,000 pounds. This will be easy to enforce because the weight is determined by looking at the license plate.

"I think it is a matter of it being more confusing about where the trucks could go," said Police Chief Rick Hetzel. "This is just an attempt to try to clean up the laws to not only make it easier for law enforcement, but also for road users."
