KENNETT - Cotton producers in Tennessee, Northeast Arkansas and Missouri face challenges uncommon in the lower Mid-South. Producers are encouraged to develop strategies to produce earlier maturing cotton, to maintain fiber quality through harvest, and to market their cotton at acceptable prices.

To help achieve these goals, University Extension and the University of Missouri-Delta Center has scheduled a regional Cotton Production and Outlook Conference set for Tuesday, Feb. 14. The meeting will be held at Country Boy Restaurant, 409 Second St., in Kennett.

Free registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the program starting at 8:30. The meeting will end with lunch provided by the sponsors.

Presentations will include information on the latest boll weevil research and eradication update; a weed control overview; nutrient management for earliness and yield; and the Egyptian cotton industry.

The cotton price outlook presentation will be made by Kevin Brinkley, staff economist with the National Cotton Council. Bill Mayfield, National Program Leader for Cotton-USDA, will give insights to maximizing profit through harvest and ginning.

In addition to the topics presented, there is a social side to the meeting. Producers have an opportunity to visit and talk about their production practices and to talk with sponsors about their products.
