Corps reopens Mark Twain Lake

HANNIBAL, Mo. (AP) -- Boaters will soon be returning to Mark Twain Lake.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it plans to reopen the lake to boaters Monday afternoon with some restrictions. For example, boating will be restricted to daylight hours and prohibited within 1,000 feet of the front of Clarence Cannon Dam.

The Corps also said some areas of the lake may not be accessible because of low bridge clearance and some recreational areas are still closed.

Officials had restricted boating after a series of storms caused the lake to rise to record levels last week. In response, the Corps steadily increased the water release rate through Cannon Dam.
