Got Olympic fever? Looking for a way to put that energy to use? Find a bunch of coworkers and enter the 2004 Corporate Games, an Olympic-style event sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.

The 20-event competition will take place Sept. 19 through Oct. 1 at venues throughout Cape Girardeau. Events offered include typical fare, such as 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, golf. The competitions also include some unusual sports -- innertube water polo, dodgeball. And a banner contest and a trivia contest also are included.

Events are scheduled for nearly every day in the 13-day period with openings for makeup days on golf and softball.

Opening ceremonies kick off the event 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at Osage Community Centre. Closing ceremonies Oct. 1 include a trivia contest and a final mystery event before the event's conclusion.

The Parks and Recreation Department is conducting the event for the second year. Last year, eight teams competed with Med Assets winning Division II (99 or fewer employees) and Proctor and Gamble Green winning Division I (100 or more employees). Organizers are hoping to get more teams involved this year.

"Our smallest team has 12 employees," said Amy Roth, coordinator for the event. "The most is pretty much unlimited."

Teams will be provided with up to 25 shirts for participants.

The entry fee of $262.50 and team rosters and waivers are due by Sept. 10. A managers meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Osage Community Centre. Entry forms are available at the Parks and Recreation offices in the A.C. Brase Arena Building, Osage Community Centre, Central Municipal Pool or at the sponsors, Howard's Athletic Goods and Horizon Screen Printing and Promotional Products.

For more information, contact Roth at 334-2859.
