The Missouri Department of Corrections says 35-year-old Benny Volner died Wednesday at a hospital in Cape Girardeau, where he had been taken from the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston, Mo. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.

Volner was convicted of first-degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action in 2010. He was one of four people accused in the killing of a man whose body was found in 2008 in a water-filled quarry near Lebanon, Mo.
