The Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau has various events planned this Month to mark May as national tourism month.
Plans include free Cape Girardeau city tours. The one-hour tours depart from the downtown pavilion across from Hutson Furniture.
Tours are scheduled for May 14 and 21 at 10 a.m. and May 15 and 22 at 2 p.m. Due to limited seating, tickets are available at the Convention and Visitors Bureau office.
A guide will escort each group as the tour. Places of interest will include the home of the Missouri state flag, outdoor murals, historic sites and the Mississippi River.
"Our objective is to be partners with the residents in representing our community," said Mary Miller, director of the bureau. "It takes a warm and friendly community to make tourism successful. Being hospitable to visitors helps create pleasant memories. We want to give our residents the knowledge needed to be of assistance, whether it's giving directions or responding to questions about an attraction. We hope everyone will take advantage of the free city tours."
Information packets will be provided as part of the tour and are available at the bureau office at 1707 Mount Auburn Road Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
