The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission on Wednesday approved a contract to replace the Indian Creek Bridge on Highway 177 north of Cape Girardeau. The $659,934 contract, which includes another bridge replacement project in Ste. Genevieve County, was awarded to Robertson Contractors Inc. of Poplar Bluff, Mo. The bridge replacement projects are part of MoDOT's Safe and Sound program, which identified 86 bridges in Southeast Missouri for replacement. The project awarded Wednesday is one of the first 19 bridges to receive improvements. Work is expected to begin this spring and each bridge will be closed for up to six weeks to speed up the construction and reduce the cost. Motorist should plan alternate routes for the construction period, MoDOT said in a news release.
