The Missouri Governor's Council on Disability is sponsoring two contests for high school and college students. The theme for both contests is "Attitude: The Last Barrier for People with Disabilities."
The purpose of the Governor's Council Journalism Contest is to reward excellence in journalistic writing and to help young Missourians become aware of the skills and abilities that people with disabilities bring to the job market. The program is open to Missouri students ages 16 through 22. Students are asked to research and write a report concerning a specific theme. First prize is a $3,000 savings bond.
The purpose of the Governor's Council Poster Contest is to interest high school students and college undergraduates with a flair for art in creating posters on the subject of opportunities for people with disabilities. Students from grades 9 through 12, and any undergraduates in colleges, junior colleges, universities or technical schools are eligible to enter. Students are asked to design a poster around the theme. First prize is a $3,000 savings bond.
The deadline for entering both contests is March 1.
