CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Students from 26 high school vocational agriculture education programs competed in the annual District Vocational Agriculture and Future Farmers of America contests recently, at Southeast Missouri State University.

First and second place winning teams will advance to state competition Thursday and Friday at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Winning teams by school were: Farmington, first place in livestock; Fredericktown, first in poultry, farm management, agriculture mechanics, field crops, meats, and second in entomology and parliamentary procedure; Campbell and Fredericktown tied for first in dairy foods; Kelly, first in soils, nursery-landscape; Charleston, first in floriculture and second in forestry; Meadow Heights, first in dairy cattle; Bernie, first in entomology and second in FFA knowledge; Twin Rivers, first in parliamentary procedure; East Prairie, first in FFA knowledge.

Other winners included: Perryville, second in livestock; Naylor, second in soils; Richland, second in poultry; Delta, second in floriculture; Puxico, second in farm management and meats; Jackson, second in agriculture mechanics; Advance, second in field crops; New Madrid, second in dairy cattle; and Cape Girardeau, second in nursery-landscape.

Winners in the public speaking category were: Emily Heath of East Prairie, first place; Margaret Rausch of Perryville, second place.

Treva Goff of Twin Rivers was first in creed speaking and Roy Poe of Bloomfield finished in second place.

Mike Mills of Bernie finished first in extemporaneous public speaking, with Jamie Starek of Twin Rivers finishing second.

Plaques were presented to first place teams by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Agri-business Committee.
