One of the two northbound lanes on South Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau will be closed to traffic temporarily beginning today because of construction of the new Silver Springs Road intersection, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The lane will be closed through July 15 in the work zone near Interstate 55, MoDOT officials said.

The $1 million project includes pavement improvements to tie the new Silver Springs Road to South Kingshighway and the addition of traffic signals.

The city of Cape Girardeau and MoDOT are sharing in the cost of the project. Lappe Cement Finishing Inc. of Perryville, Mo., is the contractor on the project.
