Brandon Hurst of KCI Construction Company works Monday on forming a footing for a staircase leading to one of two new bridges that cross the lazy river at Cape Splash in Cape Girardeau. In September, the Cape Girardeau City Council updated a $724,000 contract with KCI for improvements to the water park's "island" that includes construction of a pavilion, a pirate-ship water feature and bollards. The original contract, which totaled less than $252,000, included concrete decking, two bridges with ramps for handicapped accessibility and three shade-umbrella structures.
