Cape Girardeau Mayor Al Spradling III and officials of Cape Girardeau Properties, L.P., have discussed ground-breaking for Heritage Manor, a 44-unit housing project for elderly and disabled people.
More than $1.9 million of the $2.2-million project comes from the federal HOME program administered by the Missouri Housing Development Commission.
"The funding awarded to Cape Girardeau Properties, L.P., for Heritage Manor represents one of the largest HOME program allocations in the state under the disaster relief and funding by HUD," said Spradling.
Architectural rendering of the 44-unit project, which will be at Linden and South Boulevard, is being prepared.
"The investment in helping the city meet the housing needs of the low-income elderly and those with disabilities represents more than a multifamily housing project," said Spradling. "It also means new jobs and a commitment of the city to join with the state and private sector to stimulate community renewal and maximize resources."
Ken Maddox, president of MACO Construction, said the cooperation from the city, and particularly the Division of Planning Services, has been "especially important in enabling funding of this project and imminent ground-breaking."
Construction of Heritage Manor is expected to begin in early July with a targeted completion date of Jan. 15, 1995.
Spradling said: "We are especially pleased to be working with Ken Maddox and his experienced team to bring about this important project. We look forward to Heritage Manor being a showcase of the state's HOME Program and the city continuing commitment to affordable housing and community revitalization."
