Cape Girardeau emergency food pantries and shelters just became about $25,000 richer, thanks to Congress.
As part of an Emergency Food and Shelter National Board decision, Cape Girardeau County was chosen to receive $25,179 in an effort to expand emergency food and shelter programs.
A local board will distribute the funds to area agencies.
The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, United Way and several other agencies serve as representatives to the board.
For agencies to receive the funds, they must be non-profit, conduct an annual audit, practice non-discrimination and be able to deliver emergency food and shelter.
To apply for the grants, contact Mary Burton, American Red Cross, at 335-9471.
