Nine members from Cape Girardeau County FCE clubs attended the annual conference of Missouri Association for Family and Community Education.
The event was held Sept. 6-8 at Ramada Conference Center in Columbia, Mo. More than 100 attended the conference. The theme was "FCE Listening Today--Envisioning Tomorrow."
Dr. Robert Hughes, associate dean of Missouri University HES Extension presented the proclamation from Gov. Mel Carnahan that Oct. 8-14 is National Family and Community Education Week. The theme is "Make A Date With Your Family."
Various workshops were presented at the conference.
Awards received by Cape County clubs include: Missouri Association of Family and Community Education Star Club 2000 Award to Town and Country, Oak Ridge and Kage clubs. Accepting the awards were Mary Klaproth, Lee Anderson and Dortha Strack, respectively.
Receiving first place awards were: Strack and Opal Collins for public policy/leadership development and for marketing/membership; Anderson for environmental and NAFCE Network Award; and Klaproth, global.
Klaproth also received the Star Walker award. Inez Statler received a certificate of appreciation in recognition of outstanding service for conference scholarship. She was also awarded a Missouri Foundation for FCE grant to be used specifically in the Missouri FCE project "Building Golden Memories."
