As of Aug. 11, there are two evening slots available for the no-cost computer courses at the Jackson South Elementary School, beginning Sept. 11.
The daytime slots were filled within a week. This is the first time a program such as this has been made available to the public. Based upon the program's success, it may be offered again.
Rob Goyette, technology director for the Jackson School District, will teach Introduction to Computers, Understanding Windows, Browsing the World Wide Web and Power Tips for Internet Use.
"Most of the cost for offering these courses is funded from already existing resources," said Goyette, who has been with the school district for a year.
Goyette said his job is "like trying to read every book by your favorite author in one night."
Previously, Goyette worked for a local computer company in Jackson for four years, and before that he was a computer program trainer in St. Louis.
Goyette attributes his expertise in software programs to this six-year period of teaching. He is able to respond quickly to a vast array of computer programs. All in all, Goyette has had more than 20 years of computer experience.
