Cape Girardeau's River City Players Community Theatre will be presenting the beloved classic comedy, Harvey April 8, 9, and 13-16 at the River City Yacht Club at Port Cape Girardeau Restaurant.
A famous play by Mary Chase, Harvey is well-known for its movie version starring Jimmy Stewart. Stewart's character Elwood and his friend Harvey are the focus of the production. Harvey seems to get Elwood into trouble with people. Everyone thinks Elwood is crazy because his best friend is an imaginary six-and-a-half foot tall white rabbit. Elwood's sister, Veta, finally has enough of his embarassment and calls their lawyer to have him committed. A mix-up at the sanitarium ensues and Elwood gets away. The rest of the play is spent looking for Elwood and Harvey.
Door opens at 6:30 pm, dinner at 7:00 pm, and the show starts at 8:00. Tickets are $24.95. The performances on April 13-14 are show only nights--door opens at 7:30 pm, show at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $10.00
"It is a cute and delightful play that will be very nostalgic for those who have seen the Jimmy Stewart movie," says director Meredith Elfrink.
This is the second time Elfrink has directed a play for River City Players. Elfrink had amazing success with Love, Sex, and the IRS, and is looking to duplicate it with Harvey.
The River City Players have an exciting season under way. After Harvey, River City Players will take on a musical revue of Kander and Ebb starting in June. "This is the first musical that River City Players has done in several years," notes Elfrink. "We are very enthusiastic about our season and we hope the audiences will be, too. I'll see you at the show!"
