Worley family reunion scheduled for Sunday

LAKE WAPPAPELLO, Mo. -- The descendants of William Worley (1790-1850) and Rosannah Likins (1796-1855) are planning a family reunion Sunday at Lake Wappapello, about 20 miles northeast of Poplar Bluff. The reunion will begin with a potluck lunch at noon at Miller's Motor Lodge on Highway T about a mile south of the lake.

William and Rosannah were married and lived in Warren County, Ky. Their children and spouses include: John and Abby Worley Bacon, James and Polly Allen Worley, Sam and Polly Painter Worley, Norman and Pop Worley Colburn, James and Elizabeth Worley Keown, William and Indiana Drake Worley, and Leander and Betty Young Worley.

Old Bollinger Countians plan get-together

The monthly get-together of the "Old Bollinger Countians" will be held at Ryan's Family Steak House in Cape Girardeau on Monday at 11:30 a.m.

Volunteers needed for Labor Day telethon

Volunteers are needed to participate in the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, proceeds from which benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The telethon, set to air on KFVS12 television Monday, Sept. 2, will originate part of its local segments from Auffenberg Chrysler Dodge Jeep Kia in Cape Girardeau, from Campbell's Harley Davidson in Marion, Ill. and from Sills Harley Davidson in Paducah, Ky. The telethon will run from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Volunteers can work any of three shifts, each three hours in length. The first shift begins at 7 a.m., the second shift at 10 a.m., the third shift at 1 p.m., and the last shift at 4 p.m. Eleven different areas are available, ranging from answering phones to stuffing envelopes to tabulating pledges. Anyone interested in volunteering at the telethon or in another capacity should call 335-4400.

SEMO Network Against Violence plans open house

The board of directors of the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence will be hosting an open house and ceremony of appreciation Friday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at No. 63 Doctors' Park in Cape Girardeau. This event is intended to express the network's gratitude to area senators and representatives for their efforts on behalf of sexually abused children in Southeast Missouri.

Tours of the facility will be given throughout the open house. During the award ceremony, the network will formally recognize all Southeast Missouri senators and representatives, with special honors presented to Sen. Peter Kinder and Rep. Jason Crowell and Denny Merideth. For more information, call 332-1900.

Social Security benefits specialist to appear

The next guest to appear on "Independently Speaking" will be Sandra Cato, Social Security benefits specialist. The program will air on WDKA-TV 49 (Channel 17 on Cable) this Sunday at 5:30 a.m. and on Cable Access Channel 5 on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
