Cape County AARP chapter will meet today

The Cape Girardeau County chapter of AARP 4041 will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church at Broadway and Caruthers.

The program, "Adding Flavor to Your Life," will be presented by the Seniors And Lawmen Together Council.

Veterans home taps top employee

Daniel Dansby has been named Employee of the Year at the Missouri Veteran's Home.

Dansby, a certified medication technician, was honored during the recent annual Veteran's Home Recognition Night Dinner and Bingo Bash at the VFW Post 3838 Hall in Cape Girardeau.

Children's center director guest speaker

Chuck Martin, executive director of the Kenny Rogers Children's Center in Sikeston, Mo., will be guest speaker on "Independently Speaking." The program will air at 7:30 p.m. and on cable access Channel 5 Tuesday and May 28.

Martin will discuss services offered by the center.

"Independently Speaking" focuses on services for the handicapped.

Miller family reunion scheduled Saturday

Descendants of John F. Miller and Lucinda (Robbins) Miller will gather for a potluck meal at noon Saturday for their annual family reunion at Cape County Park, Pavilion 7 in Cape Girardeau.

Miller was born in 1862 at Wolf Lake, Ill., and died Dec. 23, 1944. Robbins was born April 10, 1867, in Missouri and died April 18, 1939.

Lucinda Robbins and John F. Miller were married Sept. 27, 1885, in Bollinger County and had 10 children. For information, call Diane Runnels at (573) 243-5306.

SADI schedules annual yard sale on Saturday

The SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence Inc. will hold its annual yard sale Saturday, starting at 7 a.m.

Clothing, appliances and other items may be donated to SADI for the sale.

Information is available by calling 651-6464.

Proceeds will be used to assist SADI's clients for the assistance and transportation programs.

Old Timers Day events planned at Altenburg

Old Timers Day will be held at Altenburg May 24.

Events, which include a car show, tractor parade, wagon backing, tractor pull, bed race, egg toss and skillet toss, will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Altenburg Fairgrounds.

There will also be musical entertainment.

Community of Perkins to hold school reunion

The Perkins School reunion will be held Sunday, May 26, for former students, teachers and their families.

Perkins Baptist Church will conduct a special service at 10:30 a.m. A catered luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Perkins Fire Hall. Cost of the dinner is $8 a person.

100-mile yard sale set for May 23 through 27

The city of Kennett, Mo., has made preparations for the 100-Mile Yard Sale May 23 through May 27. Kennett will sponsor a one-day, citywide yard sale May 25.

This year marks the fourth year the event will be held along Highway 25 between Jackson and Kennett. Brochures will be available soon for the Memorial Day Weekend event.
