Air squadron takes emergency training
Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Squadron MO 127 took communication and emergency service training Aug. 4 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
The cadets were taught basic radio communication for use in search and rescue, field exercises and disaster relief. CAP has one of the most extensive and sophisticated communication networks in the nation and provides vital communications support to local, state and federal agencies during disaster relief, search and rescue, and many other emergency situations.
The first response team from ARCH Air Medical Service and Cape Girardeau Fire Department gave cadets and senior members of CAP a tour of an emergency truck and equipment by Steve Niswonger, Rob A. Thompson, Larry Hogan, Harry Schumer and Shawn Morris.
Counseling center events scheduled
The Community Counseling Center Foundation is sponsoring three special events in September and October.
All proceeds from these events will go to the foundation for providing improved facilities, equipment and services for persons with mental illness. For more information on these events, call 334-1100.
Sept. 18: Third annual Miniature Golf Tournament at Arena Park Golf in Cape Girardeau. This tournament is open from age 9 up, with five age categories, to play putt-putt golf.
Trophies and prizes will be awarded in each age group. The entry fee is a $10 donation. Prepaid registration includes a free practice round.
Oct. 8: Benefit Golf Tournament at Kokopelli Golf Club in Marion, Ill. This will be an 18-hole, 4-person scramble. Tournament fee is $85 per player and includes 18 holes of golf, cart lunch and beverages throughout the tournament. Lunch is at noon, and tee time is 1 p.m.
Oct. 14: Semiannual Antique and Collectible Show held at the A.C. Brase Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. Admission to the preshow sale from 8-9 a.m. is $5. Admission to the regular show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. is $1.
Children's events at Cape library scheduled
The Cape Girardeau Public Library has several events for children scheduled this month.
Toddler Time will be at 10 a.m. today and Sept. 24. The event provides fun stories and activities for children ages 18 months to 2 years.
Story Time will at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. The event, for children ages 3-5, will provide fun stories and a craft to do at home.
No registration is required for either event.
Grand Time will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 27. Children of all ages are invited to grab a grandparent or any special adult and form a link to the past. Special bonding activities include stories, crafts and child/adult interviews. Registration is preferred. Call 334-5279 to register.
