Salvation Army to host 'Meals with Friends'

The Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope, will be serving "Meals with Friends" Monday through Friday this week.

Serving time is 4:30 to 6 p.m. The menu includes.

Monday -- Chile dog on bun, French fries, peaches, cake or pie.

Tuesday -- Barbecue sandwich, potato chips, lettuce salad, cake or pie.

Wednesday -- Turkey and noodles, green beans, apple sauce, bread and butter, cake or pie.

Thursday -- Roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, buttered corn, bread and butter, cake or pie.

Friday -- Hot dog or Polish sausage, potato chips, coleslaw, fruit salad, cake or pie.

Anyone is welcome.

Descendants of Abraham and Elizabeth Baker Sample will hold a reunion Saturday at Delmonico's Restaurant in Jackson Aug. 3.

Funds to expand health care services

Cross Trails Medical Center in Cape Girardeau will receive a $200,000 grant to improve health care services for low-income residents.

The grant is part of President Bush's plan to add 1,200 new and expanded health center sites over five years. Currently, health centers treat about 11 million people annually.

Fund raiser to be held in Jackson Sunday

A "Project Charlie" fund raiser will be held July 28 at the Southeast Missourian/Jackson USA office at 104 S. Hope St.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts will be sold from 7 to 11 a.m. that day
