Neighborhood Connections meets today

Neighborhood Connections will meet at 6 p.m. today at 101 Fountain St.in Cape Girardeau. The public is invited. A discussion of plans for the neighborhood's response to the comprehensive plan for Cape Girardeau is on the agenda, along with suggestions for better communications among neighbors. Community Caring Council to hold meeting

The Community Caring Council will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 a.m. Friday at Kasten Community Development, 937 Broadway, Suite 102. This month Salena Hamilton and Lorrann Hatchett, volunteers with the Missouri Reentry Process, will present a "real life" picture of offenders as they leave incarceration.

Post M to hold picnic Saturday at county park

A picnic for Post M of the Travelers Protective Association will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at shelter No. 8 at Cape County Park. The post will provide beverages and table service for the potluck meal. Bring your favorite recipe. Games, including bingo, are planned. Bring a prospective member and enjoy fun and good food.

Nature Center to hold outdoor cooking program

An outdoor cooking program for teens ages 12 to 17 will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. Appetizers, a main dish and dessert will be prepared on a stick, in a cardboard box, on a tin can, in foil and with a Dutch oven. Registration is required. For more information, call (573) 290-5218.

Church holds Stewart Family benefit Sale

Father's Arms Fellowship Church, 1400 Main St. in Scott City, will hold a sale to benefit the Aaron Stewart family from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily today through Saturday at the back of the church. Thrift items along with baked goods will be sold by donation. Cash donations, also acceptable, are tax-deductible. Checks may be made out to Father's Arms Fellowship with Aaron Stewart in the memo of the check. All proceeds will go toward expenses for the family, whose son recently died after a long battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The family had no life insurance. Individuals willing to help at the sale or who would like to donate cash or items for the sale may call Pastor Ken Strong at 225-5294.

German Days to be held in August in Chaffee

Chaffee German Days will be held from 4 p.m. to midnight Aug. 3 and from 11 a.m. to midnight Aug. 4 at Frisco Park in Chaffee. Events on Aug. 3 include a beauty pageant, free dance and music by Excalibur Sound System. Events on Aug. 4 include softball, washer and horseshoe tournaments, kiddie tractor pull and music by Big Worm Sound. Carnival rides will be open from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 2 to Aug. 4. Wristbands are available for all three days. No coolers. will be allowed. Everyone is invited.
