Community dance scheduled for Saturday
Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will host a community dance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain, Cape Girardeau.
Joe Surdyk of Carbondale, Ill., will teach and call contra, square and circle dances to live old-time music. All moves are taught and the dances walked through. Everyone is welcome. Jackson Senior Center holds annual garage sale
The Jackson Senior Center will hold its annual garage sale beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday. The center, located at 402 E. Washington Street, will continue the sale until all items are sold. Stockpiling of merchandise throughout the year will make this annual garage sale bigger than ever. A parking space to sell personal merchandise may be purchased. Civil War Roundtable meeting set for Sunday
The Cape Girardeau County chapter of the Civil War Roundtable will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanover Lutheran Church at 2949 Perryville Road. The speaker will be Cape Girardeau prosecuting attorney Morley Swingle. He will discuss the Civil War in Cape Girardeau. He will also have copies of his historical novel, "The Gold of Cape Girardeau" available for purchase. Guests welcome.

Southeast Missouri Hospital offers camps, workshops
A new Pee Wee Playtime Camp is offered from 9 a.m. to noon July 24 or 28 for ages 2 to 5.
The Center's Romp 'n' Stomp instructors will lead children in play, climbing, crafts and making snacks. There is a fee and families with two or more children from one family attending will receive a discount.

Cape Girardeau Public Library events scheduled
From 10 to 10:30 a.m. today, the Hands On program for ages 3 to 5 will feature "Doggone Fun" at the library; from 2 to 3 p.m. children in grades 4 to 6 can participate in the Kids Can 2 program featuring luminaries.
From 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, the Fantastic Friday program, open to all ages, will feature Southeast Missouri Hospital's Heartsmart.
From 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, the Toddler Time program for 18 months to age 2 will feature Fun In the Sun; from 7 to 8 p.m. Cool Reads, for grades 4 to 6 will enjoy Mark Twain Award nominees and ice cream.
Post M of the TPA to hold picnic
Cape Girardeau Post M of the Travelers Protection Association will hold a family picnic at 6 p.m. Saturday at Shelter No. 8 of Cape County Park. TPA members are invited to bring their families and prospective members. There is no cost for the potluck picnic. Beverages and table service will be provided. Parents Without Partners touring Fox theater
Parents Without Partners will meet at 8 a.m. at the commuter lot in Cape Girardeau (near Wal-Mart) and at D Mart in Jackson at 8:30 a.m., Saturday to tour the Fox theater in St. Louis. Lunch will be in St. Louis after the Fox tour, and from 1:30 to 4, the group will tour the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis. Call 335-0797 for more information.
