Cape Girardeau County AARP meets today
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church, Broadway and Caruthers Street in Cape Girardeau. The program will be "Cruisin' through the Panama Canal," presented by Grace Hoover. There will be a drawing for a door prize.
League of Women Voters sponsoring forums
Beginning July 12 the Southeast Missouri League of Women Voters is offering written voters guides available at public libraries and banks free of charge. Free voters forums will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Glenn Auditorium in Dempster Hall at Southeast Missouri State University. Candidates on Tuesday will include those from Missouri House of Representatives District 158 and Cape Girardeau County Commission District 1. On Thursday candidates will include those from Cape County Commission District 2, Cape Girardeau County sheriff, Cape Girardeau County treasurer, Cape Girardeau County public administrator and Cape Girardeau County coroner. Children can get fit through basic training
Southeast Missouri Hospital's Main Street Fitness Center will hold a basic training camp for boys and girls ages 6 to 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. today and Tuesday. There is a fee, discounted when two children from one family attend. The camp is themed for military, police and firefighter training with a swimming outing. Hearing contest on tap at Jackson Senior Center
Heartland Hearing Specialists, in cooperation with the Jackson Senior Center, is sponsoring a contest for individuals to win a complete hearing instrument. The winner will be judged by calculating who has the greatest hearing loss of those signed up. Screenings will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and July 23. Ladies Aid presents tablescapes, quilt turning
St. Paul Ladies Aid of Jackson is sponsoring "Tablescapes" and "Quilt Turning" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Quilt turning will begin at 11 a.m in St. Paul's Fellowship Hall. Quilts from old to new will be featured. Tablescapes will be contemporary, decorated in Depression glass and dishes from grandmother and great-grandmother. Tickets are on sale now or may be purchased at the door.
