ST. LOUIS -- "Get Real With Yourself" is a free, confidential program that offers counseling, education and support to teenagers and young adults dealing with an unplanned pregnancy or who even think they might be pregnant. LFCS launched the program in September 2006 with a Web site, www.getrealwithyourself.com, and a 24-hour hot line, (877) 747-REAL. LFCS, the not-for-profit organization that provides social services regardless of faith, race, national origin, gender or age is taking the program statewide through its offices in Cape Girardeau, Columbia and Springfield. The Salvation Army is accepting donations for the Community Back To School Fair to be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St. in Cape Girardeau. Crayons, glue, rulers, pencil boxes, tissues, pens, pencils, erasers, spiral notebooks and folders will be collected for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. St. Joseph Home and School of Scott City received a check for $205 from the proceeds of a Chrysler golf program, "Drive for the Chrysler," from Auffenberg Chrysler, co-sponsors of the St. Joseph Golf Classic held recently in Cape Girardeau.
The Jesse Green family reunion will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cape County Park South, pavilion 22. Fried chicken will be furnished, and attendees are asked to bring a covered dish. American Red Cross supporters and volunteers are invited to attend the 90th annual meeting of the American Red Cross, Southeast Missouri Chapter, at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Centenary United Methodist Church. The Southeast Missouri Chapter provides programs and services to Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Dunklin, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Perry, Scott and Stoddard counties. Anyone who is involved with the Red Cross, whether through blood donations, monetary donations, volunteer services or disaster services is invited. Recognition for outstanding service will be given at the meeting and the election of the 2007-2008 board of directors will also take place. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money and blood to do its work.
