Heifer International to hold workshop Friday

A free workshop about Heifer International, a humanitarian organization that lifts families from a life of poverty, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 235 Broadway. The speaker will be David Boothby, Midwest regional director. The workshop is open to the public, and lunch is included. Registration is required. Travelers Protective Association holds picnic

The Travelers Protective Association will hold a potluck meal with beverages and table service provided by the Post at 6 p.m. Saturday at Cape County Park North shelter No. 8. Bring and share a favorite recipe.

Off-trail hike will be at Trail of Tears State Park

A South Boundary Hike will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Meet at the Visitor Center. A naturalist will lead this four-mile round trip, off-trail hike along the south boundary of the park. Water bottles are mandatory. Sturdy shoes are encouraged because of rugged terrain toward the end of the hike. Poison ivy and ticks are common, so participants should wear long pants. Hiking sticks are suggested.

Public invited to learn about manatees

The Friends of Riverside Regional Library at Jackson invite the public to "Manatee 101" at 6:30 p.m. June 21. Girl Scout Troop 147 of Jackson, which learned about the manatees and marine biology on their trip to Florida last year, will make a free presentation about this endangered species at RRL Community Room, 204 S. Northern Cherokee Nation holds reunion

The Northern Cherokee Nation of the Old Louisiana Territory annual reunion begins at 10 a.m. June 23 at Capaha Park. Visiting and a silent auction are scheduled for this time, with a state of the nation address at 11:30 a.m., followed by a lunch break at noon. From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., regalia, storytelling, beadwork and Cherokee literature presentations will be made. A pow wow, NCNOLT Cherokee style, will be held at 3:30 p.m. A 5:30 p.m. break for supper will be followed by campfire and storytelling at 6:30 p.m. Closing is scheduled for about 7:30 p.m. For more information, call 339-7464. Jackson class of '77 plans reunion

The Jackson High School class of 1977 will celebrate its 30th reunion July 7 at the Jackson Elks Lodge. The classes of 1976 and 1978 are invited to join at 8 p.m. for drinks and dancing. For more information, call Denise McDowell at 243-8047.
