Jump Rope for Heart scheduled for Friday

Students from all Jackson schools will participate in the Jackson All City Jump Rope for Heart from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Jackson Middle School, located on Route D in Jackson. Pledges will benefit the American Heart Association. Participants will enjoy a jumping team performance, a Southeast Twirlers performance and a program by Main Street Fitness. VFW poppies go on sale to support veterans

Members of Jackson Memorial VFW Post No. 10495 and its Auxiliary will be taking donations for Buddy Poppies at various locations in the area on Friday and Saturday. In May 1922, the VFW began the national Buddy Poppy campaign to help "honor the dead by helping the living."

Southern Pride Senior Program board meeting

The public is welcome to attend the Southern Pride Senior Program board meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at Happy Days Senior Center, 305 23rd St., Cairo, Ill. Individuals requesting to be on the agenda should call (618) 658-9669.

Summer cheer clinic at South Elementary

Girls who have just completed kindergarten through sixth grade are eligible to participate in the annual Jackson Cheerleading Clinic from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 23 to 25 at South Elementary Gym on Highway 25, Jackson. At 6 p.m. May 26, the girls will meet to practice for their performance at 6:30 p.m. Friends and family are invited. For details on cost and T-shirt availability, call Audrey Norman at 204-7401 before 9 p.m. The clinic will be conductd by the high school cheerleading coaches and varsity cheerleaders.

Groups participate in Friends of the Park Day

Twenty groups participated in Cape Girardeau's Friends of the Park Day last week at Capaha Park, Cape La Croix Trail, Fort D Park, Groves Park, Cape Jaycees Municipal Golf Course, Kiwanis Park and May Greene Park. A total of 367 volunteers participated with a total of 84 walk-ins. Groups included Brownie Girl Scout Troop 182, Daisy Girl Scout Troop 67, Girl Scout troops 82 and 126, Boy Scout Wolf Pack 18, Boy Scout Pack 8, Boy Scout Troop dens 9 and 5, Rose Hill Garden Club, Southeast Missouri State University Student Government, Southeast Missouri State University Student Support Services, VIP Industries-Cape Girardeau, Civil War Roundtable, Perryville Community Counseling Center, Cape Girardeau Evening Optimist Club, SEMO Cape Grove student group, Sigma Alpha Iota, Trinity Lutheran School third grade, Cape Jaycees, Kiwanis Club of Cape Girardeau and May Green Garden Association.

Car wash benefits Boys and Girls Club

Southeast Missouri State University's Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and Delta Delta Delta sorority recently held a car wash at Rhodes on Sprigg Street in Cape Girardeau to show support for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Missouri. The event raised $324 during the two days it was held. All proceeds benefited the Cape Girardeau Boys and Girls Club.

Elks mobile program provides dental services

The 2005 Missouri Elks Mobile Dental Program serving Scott County will offer services until May 12 at the Sikeston Regional Center. The program will be serving Bollinger and Perry counties at Perryville Elks Lodge from July 11 to July 21. For more information, call (816) 404-6904.

Humane Society to hold first annual yard sale

The Humane Society of Southeast Missouri will be accepting items for its first annual yard sale until May 13. The yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 14 at the Humane Society, 2536 Boutin Drive, Cape Girardeau. A garden package raffle will be drawn at 3 p.m., and will include a 10-by-12 portable warehouse, mulching lawn mower, wheelbarrow, garden tools and gift certificates from area nurseries. The portable warehouse is on display at Century 21 Key Realty, 980 N. Kingshighway. For donations or information, call 334-5837.

Bike-A-Thon on May 21 to benefit St. Jude's

A Wheels-For-Life Bike-A-Thon, sponsored by the staff of Dr. T. Wayne Lewis, will begin at 1 p.m. May 21 at Jackson City Park at Safety City. Participants can walk or ride bicycles to help raise funds for St. Jude's Childrens Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and its ongoing fight against childhood catastrophic diseases. Participants under age 18 must have a consent form signed by their parent or guardian. Routes will be set according to age and ability for all ages. Sponsor forms are available at Dr. Lewis' office, 611 W. Main St., Jackson, Mondays through Thursdays. For more information, call 243-5252.

Bunny Bread employee reunion set for May 22

The annual Bunny Bread reunion will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at shelter No. 4 in Cape County Park North. Bring your own lunch, table service, utensils, lawn chairs and games. Pass the word along or call Bill Scharenborg at 243-5369.
