Bishop to speak at Eucharistic celebration
Bishop John Leibrecht will be the principal celebrant at a special Eucharistic celebration and open house planned at 6:30 p.m. today at Immaculate Conception Church at Jackson.
The Crystal Rose awards will be presented during the Eucharistic Celebration.
Following the Mass, the new Immaculate Conception education facility will be open for a tour. The 28,000-square-foot building will house classrooms for kindergarten through third grades and Sunday School classes.
A state-of-the-art computer lab, administrative offices and 9,000-square-foot dining hall are in the new structure.
Plans are to move into the new building in June, with a formal dedication in August.
The tour of the new facility will be from 7:45 to 9 p.m.
Masons to hold dinner meeting today at lodge

Judge candidates to speak at GOP event
New officers will be installed at the Cape Girardeau Republican Women's Club meeting at 11:45 a.m. Friday at the holiday inn. Judge candidates Lawrence Kasten and Gary Kamp will be guest speakers.
Soapbox Derby Day clinic on Saturday
The second Soap Box Derby clinic will be held Saturday, on the lower parking lot of the St. Francis Medical Center Garage, beginning at 8 a.m.
The Soapbox Derby will be May 18, with registration and inspection of vehicles at 5 p.m. May 17, and 8 a.m. May 18. Race activities will start at 9 a.m. May 18.
Lewis and Clark panel slates Cape workshop
A Missouri Lewis and Clark Community Workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Show Me Center. A morning session will provide information on the Lewis and Clark activities in the Southeast Missouri area.
Forums in the afternoon will focus on event coordination on the Mississippi River.

RiverWalkers changing to Thursday schedule
The Old Town Cape RiverWalkers Club has switched to its Thursday schedule, starting at 6 p.m. Steve Gerard, coordinator of the weekly strolls, said tonight's walk is the "Solar System Stroll." Perryville schedules Mardi Gras Mayfest
Mardi Gras Mayfest will be held "on the square" at Perryville May 10 and 11.
Events include a parade, appearance of St. Louis Rams cheerleaders and Miss Rodeo USA, youth bike show, 5K run, bed races and quilt show.
Eight live bands will be on hand for the weekend.

SADI plans annual yard sale on May 18
The SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, Inc. will hold its annual yard sale May 18, starting at 7 a.m.
Clothing, appliances and other items may be donated to SADI for the sale.

Old Timers Day events planned at Altenburg
Old Timers Day will be held at Altenburg May 24.
Events, which include a car show, tractor parade, wagon backing, tractor pull, bed race, egg toss and skillet toss, will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Altenburg Fairgrounds.

Community of Perkins to hold school reunion
The Perkins School reunion will be held Sunday, May 26, for former students, teachers and their families.
Perkins Baptist Church will conduct a special service at 10:30 a.m. A catered luncheon will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Perkins Fire Hall. Cost of the dinner is $8 a person.
100-mile yard sale May 23 through 27
The city of Kennett has made preparations for the 100-Mile Yard Sale May 23 through May 27. Kennett will sponsor a one-day, citywide yard sale May 25.
This year marks the fourth year the event will be held along Highway 25 between Jackson and Kennett. Brochures will be available soon for the Memorial Day Weekend event.
Genealogy Society plans speaker for meeting
Lorena Shell Eaker will be guest speaker at the Cape Girardeau County Genealogy Society meeting at 7:30 p.m. June 22 at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson.
Eaker has written books on the Eaker family and German-speaking people west of the Catawba River in North Carolina. She has a forthcoming book on the Frederick Wise family.

Pig roast set June 27 will raise funds for MDA
The fourth annual Muscular Dystrophy Association pig roast will be held from 3 p.m. to closing June 27 at Diana's Lounge in Sikeston, Mo.
The cost is $3 for the all-you-can-eat meal. Drink specials, pool tournaments and door prizes will be available.
Proceeds will benefit the Twin Rivers Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
