Community Counseling Center meets Friday

The Community Counseling Center will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the Kasten Community Development Center, 937 Broadway, Suite 102, Cape Girardeau. Christy Mershon with SEMO University Office of Extended & Continuing Education will provide the program.

Church sponsoring annual garage sale

A garage sale for the Family Transition Team/Children and Youth will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Red Star Baptist Church Activity Center, 1316 N. Main St., Cape Girardeau. Items for donation can be dropped off at Red Star from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

Civil War Roundtable meets Sunday

The Cape Civil War Roundtable will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau for a discussion of upcoming events and a program by Jim Mayo, director of the Stars and Stripes Museum.

Genealogist celebrating 80th in Marble Hill

Genealogist Lorena Shell Eaker of Church Hill, Tenn., will celebrate her 80th birthday at an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. May 26 at the VFW Hall in Marble Hill, Mo. All her family and friends are invited. Eaker will be at the Bollinger County Library on May 24 to assist anyone working on genealogy.

Mound City cemetery holding program

MOUND CITY, Ill. -- A Memorial Day program to honor all veterans will be held at 10 a.m. May 26 at Mound City National Cemetery. The guest speaker will be Cairo native Jack Buie, who served in the U.S. Army as a member of the Presidential Honor Guard. He initially trained as a sentinel and walked the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. A shuttle service will run from St. Mary's Church in Mound City to the cemetery beginning at 9 a.m. For more information, call (618) 748-9428.

Memorial service set in Sedgewickville

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. May 27 at Sedgewickville Cemetery, routes K and WW in Sedgewickville. A potluck dinner will be held at noon. Those planning to attend should bring lawn chairs.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. May 27 at Dry Creek Cemetery. A business meeting will follow.

Eagle Ridge student wins coloring contest

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Kolton Estes of Eagle Ridge Christian School won second place in the National Work Zone Awareness Week coloring contest and had his work displayed at West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau. The contest was for grades three to six. In addition, MoDOT employees held an award ceremony at the school where Estes was presented with a plaque and a prize packet with various awards inside.

Sedgewickville School picnic to be held June 2

Sedgewickville School classmates, spouses, teachers and friends will hold a picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 2 at Sedgewickville City Park. Bring covered dish, tableware, photos and mementos you'd like to share.

Contra dance scheduled for June 2

Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will have a contra dance from 7 to 9:30 p.m. June 2 at Christ Episcopal Church in Cape Girardeau. Live music will be provided by Gary Watson on fiddle, Gene King on guitar; Judy Bass will teach and call the dances. All moves taught and the dances walked through. Everyone welcome.
