Beginning with live bird banding demonstrations at 7 a.m. Saturday, the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will hold activities until 4 p.m., including "Bird Olympics," a program on attracting wildlife to backyards, warbler walks, door prizes and a 2 p.m. program by award-winning wildlife caller Ralph Duren, who will discuss and imitate many of Missouri's birds. A benefit is planned for 1 p.m. May 19 at Willa's Getaway, Route 3, McClure, Ill., for the family of Colton Pearl. Pearl, a 29-year-old father and husband, died in a car accident recently. He leaves behind a wife and three small children. An auction, bake sale, pool tournament, door prizes and karaoke contest will be held. All proceeds go directly to the family.
A memorial service will be held at McGuire Cemetery, Highway OO, two miles south of Burfordville, at 2 p.m. May 20. Rev. Matt Craft will be the guest speaker. A brief business meeting will be held following the service. Contributions will be received for cemetery maintenance.
