Concert helps Malden seniors nutrition site
MALDEN, Mo. — Grammy and Dove award-winning artist Jessy Dixon will give a concert at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Malden Community Center. Sponsored by The Malden Senior Nutrition Site, a portion of ticket sales will go to benefit the nutrition site's programs. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at the Overturf Health Marts in Malden, Bernie, Mo., Dexter, Mo., and Southeast Missouri Christian bookstores. VFW post, auxiliary to hold indoor garage sale
The VFW Post 3838 and Auxiliary will hold an indoor garage sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the post, 1049 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.
Dr. Joel Rhodes speaks on his new book
The City of Cape Girardeau's Historic Preservation Commission will host Dr. Joel Rhodes at its meeting at 7 p.m. April 16. Rhodes is an assistant professor of history at Southeast Missouri State University and the associate director of the center for Regional and Cultural History. He will speak on his new book, "A Missouri Railroad Pioneer: The Life of Louis Houck," to be released this summer. The meeting is open to the public. Horse teams, old tractors on display at Plow Day
Plow Day will be held at 9 a.m. April 19 (rain date April 26) at Bark's Plantation on Route ZZ, two miles north of Glenallen. Admission is free. Horse team or plow participants are asked to notify event directors upon arrival. Horses and antique tractors will plow and disk fields as a demonstration of how it was done in the past. Mother Earth Wholistic Fair coming April 26
The third annual Mother Earth's Wholistic Fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 26 at the VFW in Cape Girardeau. Health and wellness techniques, natural care items, herbs, plants and interior enhancements will be presented by more than 30 vendors. Cotton shopping bags, provided by Natural Health Organic Foods in Cape Girardeau, will be given free to the first 200 guests. Door prizes will be awarded hourly. Donations of canned goods or personal hygiene products for the Bootheel Food Bank are appreciated.
Friends of the library group holds sale
The Friends of the Library will sell books, audio books, videos, music CDs, paperbacks and magazines to fund special projects at the Jackson Riverside Regional Library. A preview sale for Friends of the Library members will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. May 1. The sale for the public is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 2 and 3. Buck-A-Bag will be featured from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3. Members of the public may pay dues and join the FOL at the preview. Cardinals Game Day set for July 6
The Parks and Recreation Department and Withers Broadcasting present the 8th annual Cardinals Game Day at 2:15 p.m. July 6 against Central Division rivals the Chicago Cubs. The bus leaves from the Osage Community Centre at 10:15 a.m. and should return around 7 p.m. Seats are at the infield terrace reserved level. Groups of eight or more should call the Parks and Recreation Department at 335-5421 for additional ticket discount prices. Place orders early because tickets and bus space are limited.
