Cape County Chapter of AARP meets today

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP 4041 will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church, on the corner of Broadway and Caruthers Avenue. The program, "The New Cape Girardeau," will be presented by Dr. Frank Nickell, director of the Regional History Center. There will be a drawing for a door prize.

Dollmaking workshop offered at the Red House

The Red House Interpretive Center in Cape Girardeau will feature a hands-on workshop on making cloth dolls from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The free workshop is open to all ages and participants will get to take their doll home. For information, call 334-1058 or visit sebuzz.com/116.

Benefit for Billy Tedder to be held at Stooges

A benefit for Billy Tedder, who was hurt in a motorcycle accident and is currently receiving physical therapy in St. Louis, will be held at 1 p.m. April 16 at Stooges in Jackson. Raffles include two donated guns and pork tenderloin shooting match boards. All donations to help with living expenses are welcome. Call 547-2935 or 243-4119 for more information.

Senator's listening post slated for Wednesday

U.S. Sen. Kit Bond announced a special listening post with Tom Schulte, a representative of the senator, to be held at 1:30 p.m. in Sikeston, Mo., at Cole Insurance, 1515 E. Malone St., and at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Scott City at Riverside Regional Library, 2106 Main St. To share a concern, write or call the senator's statewide Office of Constituent Services at 308 E. Meeting set for parents of seventh-graders

Central Junior High principals and counselors will hold an informative meeting at 6:30 p.m. April 11 at the Junior High cafeteria for parents of students entering seventh grade this upcoming year. Topics addressed will include general information, interesting items about this transitional year, procedures that will become important and the scheduling process involved in selecting courses their seventh-grader will take. The meeting will help answer parents' questions regarding the steps necessary for their child's successful academic experience.

Old sports memorablilia from the area wanted

Contributions for an upcoming sports exhibit at the River Heritage Museum are currently being sought. Associated memorabilia from all types of sporting events including tennis and boxing (Golden Gloves events) will be returned. Autographed balls, program events, home movies, uniforms, caps, and high school-related sports memorabilia, particularly from high schools no longer in existence (St. Mary's, College and John Cobb High Schools) will all be considered. Grandparents support group held April 13

The grandparents support group, for any relative raising children other than their own, will meet at 10 a.m. April 13 at the Cape Girardeau County Extension Center, 684 W. Jackson Trail, Jackson. The support group offers an opportunity to meet other people experiencing the same situation and receive practical information. Call 243-3581 to attend the group.
