Cape Girardeau AARP meeting set for Monday

The Cape Girardeau County chapter of AARP No. 4041 will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, Broadway and Caruthers. The program is "Cape Girardeau County Chapter 4041 -- Our Heritage: Past, Present and Future," presented by Opal Collins. There will be a drawing for a door prize.

Heritage association presenting open house

The Jackson Heritage Association will hold the first open house of the 2004 season at the Oliver House, 224 East Adams St., Jackson. A guided tour will be available at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Retirement reception sponsored by Jackson CTA

The Jackson CTA is sponsoring a celebration to congratulate retirees of the Jackson School District, including Linda Nash, Janice Burk, Steve Burk, Andrea Sachse, Lana Wills, Karen Turley, Mary Green, Barbara Miller, Jim Stoverink, Susan Statler, Linda Heise from 4 to 5 p.m. May 6 at the Jackson Middle School cafeteria. A recognition program is planned for 5 p.m.

Rummage sale proceeds benefit families, children

A rummage sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Hanover Lutheran Church Activity Center, 2949 Perryville Road, Cape Girardeau. Proceeds will benefit Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Southeast Missouri. Sponsorship pending with local Thrivent Financial chapters.

Women in Agriculture head to Diebold Orchards

The Scott County Women in Agriculture group will meet at 6 p.m May 6 at Diebold Orchards in Benton, Mo., for a "Plant Container Party." Everyone is asked to bring their own container or you may purchase one at the orchard to plant flowers or herbs. Also bring your own jugs to fill with liquid fertilizer from the Juice Bar to take home at no charge. Following the presentation, a meeting will be held at the USDA Service Center, 6458 Highway 77, Benton. All women are invited to attend. Birding tour flying to Wolf Lake, Ill., on Friday

Eaker to speak at two genealogy meetings

The Bollinger County Library in Marble Hill will hold a workshop led by Lorena Shell Eaker, a genealogy veteran of 57 years, from 9 a.m. until closing on Wednesday. Eaker is a Bollinger County native and direct descendant of many of the early settlers of Southeast Missouri. Riverside Regional Library in Jackson will hold a genealogy workshop led by Eaker from 9 a.m. to closing Monday. This meeting is for members of the Crites family to work on research difficulties.

Adventure Day shows 1904 World's Fair

The Adventure Day 2004 theme is "1904 World's Fair: Louisiana Exposition." This is an event for special needs students -- accompanied by their teachers -- who are enrolled in the classroom Scouting program. Planned for May 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at County Park South, the event will be attended by students from Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. Participating Scouts enrolled in the Special Needs Classroom Scouting program are provided with membership pins, Girl Scout and Boy Scout badge sashes and badges. There is no fee.
