Donations of small appliances, household items and clean, wearable clothing from the community will be used for sale at the SEMO Alliance for Disability Inc. annual yard sale. The proceeds will benefit individuals with disabilities who cannot afford assistive devices that Medicare does not cover and subsidize transportation costs for SADI's shuttle service. Hot, nutritious meals at the Salvation Army will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today through Friday, with cake or pie for dessert daily. Today's menu is goulash, peas, mixed fruit, bread and butter; Tuesday's menu is nachos, lettuce, refried beans, salsa, pears; Wednesday's menu is hot dogs on bun with chili, chips, Jello with fruit; Thursday's menu is turkey dinner, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, bread and butter; Friday's menu is chicken nuggets, tater tots, stewed tomatoes, applesauce, bread and butter.
The United Way of Southeast Missouri, the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and the Southeast Missourian will present a board fair from 4 to 6 p.m. May 2 at the Centenary United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 300 N. Ellis St., Cape Girardeau. Featuring a "get on board" airline theme, the board fair will present information about specific tasks and functions of board members. It is designed to present people with the opportunity to get involved in a local not-for-profit organization through service on its board.
