AARP Social Security forum planned Friday

A free AARP Social Security forum will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church fellowship hall, 521 Caruthers Ave. The presentation will include how Social Security works and why it matters in Missouri. For more information, call (816) 360-2202.

Babies and children show at Osage Center

From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Mix 96.5, Southeast Hospital, and the Withers Broadcasting family will hold the "ABC Expo" at Cape Girardeau's Osage Community Centre. There is an admission fee, with children 10 and under admitted free. There will be free samples, shopping and family events. The first 1,500 adults admitted will receive a complimentary hospital goodie bag. Also at the event will be hospital informational seminars, children's fashion shows, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Geoffrey from Toys 'R' Us.

Cape library announces events for month of May

The Cape Girardeau Public Library has several events planned for May. At 2 p.m. May 6, the library will show a foreign film for adult audiences, "Long Life, Happiness and Prosperity." Beginner computer training, including mouse practice and Internet basics, will be held at 10 a.m. May 13. Registration is required. Call 334-5279. The Knitting Club will meet at 7 p.m. May 19. Beginners or experienced knitters should bring needles and yarn. Friends of the Library book sale preview will be May 20 from 5 to 6 p.m., with the sale open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. May 20 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 21. Ruth Dockins, Southeast Area Agency on Aging director, will lead a seminar on Medicare, Part D and Agency Services at 7 p.m. May 24. A poetry coffee house with a theme of "Nature Poets and Poetry" will be held at 7 p.m. May 31. May's selection for the book discussion group is "American Pie: Slices of Life (and pie) from America's Back Roads," by Pascale Draoulec. The library will also be closed for Memorial Day on May 30.

Remembrance scrapbook recalls special qualities

"Remember Me Always," the first of a series of scrapbooks, is now available for purchase at Crain Funeral Home at 135 W. Vienna St., Anna, Ill., or Old Route 13, Murphysboro, Ill. The book makes the process of recollecting special events and times spent together short and simple. Copies can also be purchased by calling (618) 697-2675.

Southeast Greeks clean up litter in park

Several Southeast Missouri State University sororities and fraternities volunteered their time to clean up litter in Arena Park April 14. Groups helping included Delta Chi, Alpha Chi Omega, Lambda Chi Alpha, Alpha Delta Pi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Delta Theta, Delta Delta Delta, Sigma Chi, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Sigma Nu, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Tau Gamma and Theta Xi. Also, during recent GreekWeek activities, sorority and fraternity members at Southeast Missouri State University collected more than 22,000 cans of food. The food was donated to the Salvation Army food pantry, which provides food to more than 200 families each month.
