Scott County GOP planning for Lincoln Day

Veterans home helping tsunami victims
Residents and staff at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau are raising money for a joint donation to aid in tsunami relief. Donations from residents will be taken in the office of the director of social services. Now through Feb. 28, staff members can participate in "dress down Mondays" in exchange for a $1 or more donation to the relief effort.
Pampered Chef party will benefit Relay for Life
The Fruitland 4-H Club is having a Pampered Chef party at 6:30 tonight at the VIP Building in Fruitland. A portion of the proceeds will go to Relay for Life. For more information, contact Denise McDowell at 243-8047.
Cancer society holding relay captain meeting
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life will hold a committee member meeting at 6 p.m. and team captain meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Drury Southwest Building, 101 S. Farrar Drive, Cape Girardeau. For more information, contact the American Cancer Society at 334-9197.

MS Walk breakfast event to recruit teams
Teams are forming now for the annual Multiple Sclerosis Walk. Interested individuals may attend a corporate breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, 1267 Mount Auburn Road, Cape Girardeau. Any group of four or more people can make a team. Breakfast is provided by Southeast Missouri Hospital. Please RSVP by Friday to Teresa Birk at 334-1777 or e-mail teresabirk@gatewayms society.org. The local MS Walk is scheduled for April 10.
Murder mystery proceeds go to Humane Society
A murder mystery dinner, "Dead Air," will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the Manhattan Room, 209 Center St., Sikeston, Mo., to benefit the Sikeston Area Humane Society. The theme is a 1940s radio show. Tickets purchased by couples are discounted. The event is catered by Susie's with a cash bar by Jeremiah's. Fiddle tunes, dance on tap at Episcopal church
A community dance featuring a caller who teaches and prompts the dances and old-time fiddle tunes will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St., Cape Girardeau. The event is sponsored by Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance. There is an admission fee, but no partner, costume or experience is needed. KC concert will honor military service
Military members who have served in the war on terrorism, as well as their spouses, are invited to a concert in their honor at 8 p.m. on Feb. 25 at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Mo. The event is hosted by the VFW's "Unmet Needs Program" as a recognition and thank you for military members' service and sacrifice. Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band are the featured performers. Complimentary childcare will be provided.
