Retired teachers meet for program on APPLE
The Retired Teacher Association of Missouri Cape Girardeau Unit will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chateau Girardeau, 3120 Independence St. The program will be on the APPLE project, followed by a business meeting. Thrivent matches funds for St. Paul mission trip
Recently St. Paul Lutheran Church Haiti Mission Team held a rummage sale that raised $5,817.12 to assist with the cost of the mission trip. Through the Thrivent Financial Care Abounds in Communities program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans provided matching funds of $1,600 to the St. Paul Lutheran Mission Trip. These programs allow for the allocation of funds to service teams that help Lutheran congregations, individuals and community organizations through fund raisers and hands-on service activities. Members and non-members volunteer through one or more service teams that exist in the community or in congregations. Anyone can join in the fellowship of a volunteer activity. Women in Ag present Judge Mann as speaker
The Scott County Women in Agriculture will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the USDA office on Highway 77 in Benton, Mo. Judge David Mann will speak to the group with an update on "What's Going On With Scott County Teens." All women are invited to attend. The organization features gardening, cooking, farming, family activities and helping the community. Its goal is to educate others about agriculture and to provide an atmosphere of fun, fellowship and support. For more information, contact Kay Dover at the USDA Center at (573) 545-9027.
Republican Women meet to discuss Lincoln Day
The Cape County Republican Women's Club will meet at 11:45 a.m. Friday at Dexter Bar-B-Q in Cape Girardeau. Plans include organizing and discussing the upcoming Lincoln Day dinner to be held at 6 p.m. March 12 at the Arena Building. Tickets will be discounted if purchased by Saturday. Square dance to raise funds for new 4-H building
No partner, experience or costume are necessary for the square dance fund raiser at 7:30 p.m Saturday at the University of Missouri Extension Center, lower level, 684 W. Jackson Trail, Jackson. Chuck Gunther will call the dances. A concession stand will be available. Call 243-3581 for more information. Proceeds will benefit the new 4-H building on the SEMO District Fair fairgrounds. The completion date is September 2005.
Grace United to hold annual basement sale
Grace United Methodist Church, located at Broadway and Caruthers Avenue, will hold its annual basement sale beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Curves' annual food drive benefits new members
Curves for Women, located at 416 S. Kingshighway, Suite 1, Cape Girardeau, will hold a food drive beginning the week of March 7. The local franchise joins Curves International Inc. in its nationwide effort to benefit local food banks. Individuals joining during the week of March 7 may bring in a bag of groceries and have the regular service fee waived. Anyone may drop off non-perishable food items at Curves Monday through Friday during business hours during March. Food collected will be donated to the Safe House for Women.
Community dance planned for March 12
A community dance sponspored by Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. March 12 at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St., Cape Girardeau. Admission will be discounted for children ages 8 to 16. Dances feature a caller who teaches and prompts the dances and live, old-time fiddle tunes. No partner, costume or experience are necessary.
