New Year's Eve dance planned by Elks Lodge; Adult Learning Center to offer classes in 2008; St. Augustine to hold euchre tournament; Presentation on rest offered at library

New Year's Eve dance planned by Elks Lodge

There will be a New Year's Eve dance from 8 p.m. Dec. 31 to 12:30 a.m. Jan. 1 at Jackson Elks Lodge on the lower level. The Country Touch band will provide music, and there will be food and party favors. For tickets, call 243-3217 after 6 p.m.

Adult Learning Center to offer classes in 2008

The Adult Learning Center, 301 Clark Ave. in Cape Gir-ardeau, will reopen Jan. 3. Classes are offered in preparation for the GED Official Test, employment tests, self-improvement and assistance with post-secondary tests such as NET, COMPASS and ASSET. The Adult Learning Center is open for students from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are also night sessions from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. All classes are free to the public. English As A Second Language classes are also offered at the Adult Learning Center. The classes are from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with night sessions Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights. For more information, call 334-3669.

St. Augustine to hold euchre tournament

A euchre tournament will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 19 at St. Augustine in Kelso, Mo. Play begins at 7 p.m. A donation at door entitles the donor to chili, tea, lemonade and coffee.

Presentation on rest offered at library

The Friends of Riverside Regional Library in Jackson will sponsor a presentation, "Getting the Rest You Need," at 7 p.m. Jan. 31. Southeast Missouri Hospital speaker Mary Morton will bring information on sleep disorders and the importance of a good night's rest. There will be time for questions. The event will be in the community meeting room at the library, 204 S. Union Ave. in Jackson. The event is free and open to the public, but attendance is limited. Those interested can preregister at the library circulation desk or by calling 243-8141.
