Modern Woodmen holds monthly camp dinner

Modern Woodmen of America Camp 8116 will hold its monthly camp dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ponderosa, 1301 S. Perryville Blvd. in Perryville, Mo. NARFE raffle drawing to benefit Alzheimer's

The National Association of Retired and Current Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1237, will meet at noon Jan. 9 at the Ponderosa in Perryville, Mo. All current and retired federal employees in Perry, Ste. Genevieve and Cape Girardeau counties are encouraged to attend. The program will be the raffle drawing to benefit Alzheimer's. For more information, call (573) 547-4249.

Cape library now hasTrail of Tears DVD

A two-hour documentary about the forced removal of five civilized Cherokee tribes, "The Trail of Tears: Cherokee Legacy," is available at Cape Girardeau Public Library with a valid borrower's card. The documentary features celebrities James Earl Jones, James Garner, Wes Studi and Crystal Gayle. For more information, call 334-5279.

Red House closed except for special group tours

The Red House Interpretive Center in downtown Cape Girardeau will be closed in January and February except for special group tours. The center will reopen March 3 for Saturday tours from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. For more information or to arrange special group tours, call the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau at 335-1631.

Red Cross gets new emergency vehicle

The American Red Cross Southeast Missouri Chapter welcomed a new ambulance-style Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV). At a recent event celebrating the addition of the new vehicle, the chapter received an award from the United Way. An award was sent from President Bush to the Disaster Action Team. The commitment of the ERV team is to provide information, food and other needed supplies to the people affected by disaster.
