Cancer benefit dance to be held for 4-year-old

A cancer benefit dance will be held from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the A.C. Brase Arena Building for 4-year-old B.J. Bradley, son of Nikki Bradley of Scott City. Five local rock bands will be performing live. Cover charge is $5. The benefit is for those age 21 and up. Call 651-3477 after 3 p.m. for more information.

Horsemanship program receives grant

The Mississippi Valley Therapeutic Horsemanship (MVTH) program of Cape Girardeau recently received a $500 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation through the Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart.

According to MVTH founder and board president, Jana Rodgers, the money will be used to buy a horse named Wendy that the program has been leasing from Kristina Greene of Scott City for several months. Wendy is 18 years old and a West Nile survivor.

"She has been our most reliable horse, so we are happy to be able to buy her before she gets sold to someone else who might not let us use her," Rodgers said.

Square dance to be held at Trinity Lutheran School

A square dance will be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran School Assembly Room, and again on Nov. 23. Call 243-3032 for more information.

Financial help needed for boy with autism

Help is needed for Ethan Dale Collier, 1-year-old grandson of Mike Sciortino, who has been diagnosed with autism. A financial hardship has been created for the Collier family through battling Ethan's disorder, according to Sciortino, and the family will soon be moving 1,500 miles to continue the best treatment for Ethan.

Anyone who would like to assist the family financially should send their contribution to the Ethan Dale Collier Special Fund Account, Bank of America, MO4-203-01-01, 2001 William St., Cape Girardeau, MO 63703-5815.

Antique and collectibles market at Arena Building

The last Antique and Collectibles Market for 2002 will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the A.C. Brase Arena Building. Exhibitors from three states will be offering antique jewelry, glassware, pottery, silverware, sports collectibles, paper Americana, dolls, toys, comics, coins, primitives and old tools.

Flag-burning ceremony will be on Veterans Day

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Boy Scout Troop 51 of Chaffee will be holding a flag-burning ceremony at 6 p.m. Monday at the American Legion Post 389 Hall on North Main Street in Chaffee in honor of Veterans Day. The ceremony provides a way for people to dispose of old and wornout flags in a proper fashion.

Changes made to solid waste, recycling routes

In observance of the Veterans Day holiday on Monday, the city of Cape Girardeau Solid Waste Divison of Public Works, including the Transfer Station and Recycling Center, will be closed.

The following changes have been made in the solid waste and recycling pick-up schedules:

Monday's residential solid waste and recycling routes will be picked up on Tuesday.

Tuesday's residential solid waste and recycling routes will be picked up on Wednesday.

There will be no Wednesday Special Pick-Ups for bulky refuse or compost/limb pick-up this week.

All other pick-ups will remain on their normal schedules.
