Community walk set for AIDS awareness

The Southeast Missouri State University Peer Education Association will hold an AIDS walk beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The walk commemorates World AIDS Day Friday. The walk will proceed down Broadway to Main Street. For more information, call William Washington at 339-3280.

D&R Classic Model Trains hold open house

D&R Classic Model Trains will feature old time steamers and surprise handcars at an open house from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Cape Girardeau Visitors and Convention Center, Broadway and Main Street.

'A Storybook Christmas' parade at Jackson

Sponsored by the Jackson Jaycees, "A Storybook Christmas" will be the theme of the annual Jackson Christmas parade, to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Girl Scouts Festival of Lights will follow at 5 p.m. at courthouse square, with the simultaneous lighting of the Jackson City Park display. Santa Claus will be in residence at 7 p.m. at the Santa House at courthouse square.

Christmas home tour set in Charleston

The Mississippi County Historical Society will hold a Christmas home tour from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday in Charleston, Mo. The society will celebrate 30 years in the Moore Home, 403 N. Main St., with 30 Christmas trees of various sizes. A new Civil War diorama will make its debut and the homes of the Rev. Michael and Linda Brewer, Annie Bone Huffman and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schott will be on the tour. Tickets may be purchased at the Mississippi County Historical Society Home on the day of the event or in advance from any board member.

Children's services group holds Home Tour

A benefit for Lutheran Family and Childrens Services will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the homes of Ken and Sharon Mueller, Mike and Tina Schumer, Richard and Deborah Galemore, Dennis and Joan Roth, Stan and Sandi Williams, and Ben Richard. Tickets may be purchased the day of the tour. For more information, call 334-5866.

Trail of Tears holds Memorial Trail Walk

A one-mile round-trip walk from Trail of Tears State Park Wescoat Shelter to the Bushyhead Memorial will be given by park staff from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday in an effort to commemorate the path taken by Cherokee Indians in their forced march to the West. Meet at the Wescoat Shelter. Call 334-1711 for more information.

Christmas parade planned at Scott City

Sponsored by Scott City Parks and Recreation and Scott City Firefighters Association, the Scott City Christmas parade begins at 4 p.m. Sunday. Line-up is at 3 p.m. at the Scott City Food Liner parking lot. For more information, call 264-2126.

Line dance club sets December calendar

The Country Club Line Dance Club will offer lessons from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Dec. 11 and 18 at Silver Saddles Country and Western Dance Studio, 330 S. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau. Beginner lessons begin at 6:30 p.m. Cost is free to beginners.
