Group donates $250to Parkview School

The members of Town and Country FCE Club recently donated $250 to Parkview State School for the Severely Handicapped to assist the school with the purchase of handicapped-accessible playground equipment. The funds were made possible by a grant awarded by the Missouri Association for Family Community Education The grant was written by Town and Country FCE member Sue Jones.

Canned goods to becollected at parade

The Jackson Ministerial Alliance, assisted by Excelsior Chapter, Order of DeMolay, will be collecting canned and nonperishable food during the annual Jackson Christmas Parade on Dec. 1. Those in attendance can contribute their items when they see the group walking in the parade.

Brazeau plans holiday events for Dec. 1

The village of Brazeau, Mo., will be decorated to reflect Christmas of years past as part of an event from 3 to 8 p.m. Dec. 1. Attractions will include a craft fair, refreshments at Carrie's Tea House, home tours, visits to the old bank filled with Christmas trees, a live nativity, Santa's Train Shop and concerts at 4 and 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the Brazeau Hall and cover entry to all events.

Women's Connection group plans program

The Women's Connection group will feature Mary Slaughter, a manager and cook, who will talk about her experiences in food service and share a Christmas cookie recipe. Guest speaker Kathy Scholtens of Raymore, Mo., will present a talk entitled "Change of Seasons." The meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 10 at Chinatown Buffet, 213 S. Kingshighway, Cape Girardeau. Attendees are asked to come early if they plan to order from the menu. Reservations are appreciated, but walk-ins will be welcome. Call 651-6281 for more information.

Nominees sought for education awards

Charter Communications and Cable in the Classroom are seeking nominees who have had a major effect on educating children in and out of the classroom or have adopted innovative learning practices. National and local recognition and prizes are the rewards. For more information, call Amber at 314-918-1893. Applications are only being accepted online at www.leadersinlearningawards.org. The deadline is Jan. 16.
