Cape Central class of '93 to hold planning meeting
The Cape Central High School class of 1993 will be holding an organizational meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday at Capaha Park, Shelter No. 2. Meeting participants will plan the class' 10-year reunion for next summer.
W.O.W. Children's Museum reopens
TAMMS, Ill. -- Wham on the Weekend Children's Museum in Tamms, Ill., will celebrate the beginning of its third year Saturday. Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The day at the W.O.W. museum will include touring a 16-wheel "Dino Truck," attending the Dinosaur's Tea Party with dino donuts, participating in a dinosaur dig, and viewing dinosaur art and crafts.
The museum, located at 343 N. Railroad Street, is open from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. on alternating Saturdays. Admission for Saturday's event costs $1.
Beef Field Day planned for Saturday
Beef Field Day, which will include discussions on the U.S. Premium Beef Program, the Show-Me-Select Heifer Program, grazing days, cowherd time insemination and the future of branded beef marketing programs, will be held Saturday at the Southeast Missouri State University farm.
The field day begins at 9:30 a.m. The university farm is located on county road 618. For directions call SEMO's Department of Agriculture at 651-2106.
Knights of Columbus will hold weekend fund drive
"With Charity for God's Special People" will be the theme of the fund drive conducted by Council No. 1111 Knights of Columbus in Cape Girardeau this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
This will be the Missouri Knights' 30th annual statewide fund-raising drive conducted for mentally retarded citizens.
More than 240 different Missouri organizations for the mentally retarded received funds from this program during the past year. Funds from this program are also responsible for the Knights of Columbus Developmental Center at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
Optimist basketball league coaches will meet
The Cape Girardeau Evening Optimist's Church League Basketball group will hold a coach's meeting at 4:15 p.m. Saturday at at the Salvation Army gym. If your church is interested in Church League Basketball, attend the upcoming meeting or call Kevin Ward at 335-1640.
Klaus reunion scheduled for Sunday at Friedheim

Republican women's club will meet Friday
Brenda Talent, wife of U.S. Senate hopeful Jim Talent, and Scott Lipke, candidate for 157th District state representative, will be the featured speakers at Friday's meeting of the Cape Girardeau County Republican Women. The meeting is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. at the Cape Girardeau Holiday Inn.
Sunday hours to begin at Cape public library
Beginning Sunday, the Cape Girardeau Public Library will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoons in addition to its regular hours, which are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Saturday.
Cape Girardeau AARP will meet Monday
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP, No. 4041, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church. The program will be about "E.V.E. - Elders Volunteering for Elders" presented by Jan McFerron. There will be refreshments and a drawing for door prizes.
Alpha Phi Omega will hold a car wash
Alpha Phi Omega, a coed service fraternity at Southeast Missouri State University, will hold a car wash on Sunday at Rhodes 101 on William Street. Weather permitting, fraternity members will wash cars from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for donations.
All donations collected will be used for members to attend their national convention in December in New Orleans.
Amelunke reunion will be held at Cape County Park
The annual reunion of the Amelunke family will be held Sunday at Cape County Park North, Shelter No. 8. A carry-in meal will begin at 12:30 p.m. Each family is encouraged to bring a wedding picture, old or new.
Elks Mobile Dental Unit soon to be in area
FESTUS, Mo. -- The Elks Mobile Dental Unit is scheduled to visit the Festus-Crystal City Elks Lodge from Monday, Oct. 7, to Thursday, Oct. 24. The unit is now in its 40th year of providing dental services to handicapped and crippled children as well as mentally retarded/developmentally disabled children and adults throughout the state. More than 100,000 residents have been served since 1962.
People who live in the counties of Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Iron, Jefferson, Madison, Perry, Scott, Ste. Genevieve, St. Francois and Washington, and who may be eligible for free dental care while the unit is in Festus, are referred by the Bureau of Special Health Care Needs or a Regional Center for the Developmentally Disabled.

Crowell promotes Missouri Reads Program
State Rep. Jason Crowell, R-Cape Girardeau, will kick off this year's Missouri Reads Program for local schools at 9 a.m. Friday at Clippard Elementary. The program promotes literacy and lifetime learning.

AARP 55 ALIVE Driver Safety class scheduled
An AARP 55 ALIVE Driver Safety Program class is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday in the Generations Room at Southeast Missouri Hospital. The cost of the class is $10. Instructors will be Robert Harper and Larry Jackson.

Cape Fall Cleanup Week scheduled for Oct. 7-12
The city of Cape Girardeau Transfer Station, 2500 South Sprigg, will be open to Cape Girardeau residents for free dumping of residential waste from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday Oct. 7 through Saturday Oct. 12.
The transfer station will accept furniture, appliances, and other general garage and basement cleanup items. Items not accepted include commercial waste, tires, automobile parts, batteries, pesticides, chemicals, motor oil, paint and hazardous waste.
Do not mix limbs, brush, grass clippings and leaves with trash. These items must be kept separate from trash and may be disposed of at the compost holding area located at Third Street just off LaCruz, across from Kastens Masonry.
The same dates and times apply to the yard waste disposal as the free dumping of residential waste. All loads hauled into the transfer staion and the compost holding area must be covered to prevent blowing.
