Scott City historical commission presents play

The Scott City Historical Preservation Commission will present "The Mystery of the Ancell Rock" play this weekend. It will be performed in the newly renovated Harmon Building, now called the Schock Community Art and Rental Hall, at 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets, $7 each, will be available at the door.

In addition to the play, there will be an exhibit of local artists' artwork in the Harmon Gallery. Exhibit hours will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, as well as during play intermissions.

Women's Show will be held at Show Me Center

The Women's Show, "A Celebration of Spirit, Body and Style," will be held at the Show Me Center this weekend. Activities will include seminars and health care information, fashion shows and a children's pageant.

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission costs $3. For details, call Southeast Missouri Hospital's marketing department at 651-5533.

Jackson American Legion holds barbecue cook-off

The Jackson American Legion Post 158 will hold its first Fall Bar-B-Q Cook-Off from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. On Friday evening, a special competition of "Anything but pork!" will be conducted.

Proceeds from both events will go to the Jackson American Legion Baseball Teams.

VanGennip memorial trail ride to be held Saturday

POCAHONTAS, Mo. -- The Second Annual Rodney VanGennip Memorial Trail Ride will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The ride starts at the Caruso Farm about three miles east of Pocahontas and lasts about three and a half hours.

The trail ride is being held in memory of Rodney VanGennip who died of juvenile diabetes at age 37 on Dec. 30, 2000. All proceeds will go to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Missouri. For more information, contact Rhonda McClanahan at 243-2295 or Jan VanGennip at 243-5779.

Kenny Rogers Charity Walk set for Saturday

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Kenny Rogers Children's Center 29th Annual Charity Walk is set for Saturday. Starting from Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse in Sikeston, registration is at 9 a.m., the walk begins at 10 a.m. Sikeston VFW Post 3174 will provide lunch at their facility after the walk.

Teen Read Week will be held at Cape library

Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to the Cape Girardeau Public Library at 11 a.m. Saturday to meet Ken Murphy, owner of Marvels & Legends, as he shares his knowledge of graphic novels and why they are so popular. Jacksonian ABWA to sponsor pageant

The Jacksonian Charter Chapter of American Business Women's Association will sponsor the first Miss Show Me Pageant at the 2002 Women's Show at the Show Me Center this weekend. The pageant will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday.

A Florsheim Picnic will be held Saturday at Cape County Park North, Shelter 4. The picnic starts at 2 p.m. A potluck meal will be served at 4 p.m. Bring a dish, drinks and lawn chairs. Plates, napkins and silverware are provided.

Peace officer reunion will be held Sunday

Antique car tour coming through community

The Historic Auto Club of Greenwood, Ind., will be driving an antique car tour through the Cape Girardeau area this Saturday. There will be 16 cars in the group, ranging from a 1935 Auburn to a 1959 Ford retractable, making the more than 1,600 mile trek.
