Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP meets

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP will meet at 1:30 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Gir-ardeau. The program will be "Historical Homes in Cape Girardeau County," by Dr. Lisa Speer, president of the Historical Society. There will be a door prize drawing.

Jackson band festival scheduled for Tuesday

The 60th annual Jackson Marching Band Festival will include a parade through uptown Jackson at 4 p.m. and an evening band festival at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Rain date is Oct. 12. Bands participating include Advance, Cape Central, Chaffee, Charleston, Delta, Oran, Meadow Heights, Perryville, Scott City, St. Vincent of Perryville, Valle of Ste. Genevieve, Woodland, Oak Ridge, Jackson Freshman and Jackson High School.

Heart association changes walk date

The date has changed for the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. It was originally scheduled for Oct. 30, but will now begin at 9 a.m. Nov. 6 at Capaha Park. The noncompetitive three-mile walk is sponsored by Southeast Missouri Hospital and raises funds to support heart disease and stroke research and educational programs in Cape Girardeau. Scott County Women in Agriculture meet

The Scott County Women in Agriculture meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at the USDA office on Highway 77 in Benton, Mo. Board members wanted for not-for-profit group

Southeast Missouri Facilities Corp. will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 12 at 107 Industrial Drive, Park Hills, Mo. SEMO Facilities Corp., a not-for-profit corporation with the primary purpose being the ownership of several buildings that are leased to East Missouri Action Agency and associated programs, is interested in recruiting board members at this meeting.

Contra dance with fiddle tunes set for Oct. 23

Sponsored by Cape Friends of Traditional Music and Dance, a contra dance will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Christ Episcopal Church, 101 N. Fountain St. Dances feature a caller who teaches and prompts the dances and live old-time fiddle tunes. No partner, costume or experience is necessary. Lewis and Clark trail chapter forming

Those interested in forming a chapter of the Lewis and Clark Heritage Trail Foundation are invited to discuss the possibilities and requirements to become a chapter at 3 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Red House Interpretive Center, 128 S. Main St. A minimum of 12 members are needed to start a chapter.

Tickets available for Holiday Home Tour

The 17th annual Holiday Home Tour, a major fund-raising event for the Southeast office of Lutheran Family and Children's Services, is scheduled for Dec. 4. This is the third year the event has been sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Arts Council. The tour includes the historic home of Jack and Jill Rickard, Dr. Michael and Gwen Bennett's home, Dr. Shannon and Jennifer Kirchhoff's home and David and Ricki Erlbacher's home. Emerson's mobile office traveling in area

U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson's mobile office will make several stops in Southeast Missouri this week, including at Marble Hill and Jackson on Thursday. The mobile office is scheduled to be at the Marble Hill Library from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and at the Jackson Chamber of Commerce office from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Darren Lingle, mobile office director, will answer the public's questions and write down constituent concerns.
