St. Denis announces date for winter dance

BENTON, Mo. -- St. Denis Home and School of Benton is hosting a winter dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the St. Denis Parish Center.

Live music will be provided by Decade. Tickets will be sold at the door; $7 per person, $12 per couple. Soda and snacks will be available. Call the school at (573) 545-3017 for more information.

Free tax assistance available at library

Tax Counseling for the Elderly will provide free tax assistance to those age 60 and older Monday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. starting today and continuing until April 14 in the Hirsch Community Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library.

Trained volunteers will aid in the preparation of income tax returns. For more information, call 334-1468.

Myers named chairman of state ag committee

Rep. Peter Myers, R-Sikeston, was recently appointed chairman of the Agriculture Committee.

This committee addresses matters referred to it relating to the protection, promotion and encouragement of agriculture and agri-business in the state.

Myers will also serve on the Appropriations -- Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, the Budget Committee, and the Conservation and Natural Resources Committee.
