Emerson to hold town hall in Perryville

U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson will hold a Perryville Town Hall Meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Perry Park Center in Perryville, Mo.

Carnahan's staff to hold mobile office hours

The staff of U.S. Sen. Jean Carnahan will hold mobile office hours Oct. 2 in three area counties. Rich Lamb, Southeast regional coordinator for Carnahan's office, will be available to assist Missourians and discuss issues of concern.

The office hours will: 9-10 a.m.: at the Scott County Courthouse in Benton, Mo.; 11 a.m. to noon at the Mississippi County Courthouse in Charleston, Mo.; 1-2 p.m. at the New Madrid County Courthouse in New Madrid, Mo.

Kenny Rogers charity walk set for Oct. 6

The 28th annual Kenny Rogers Children's Center Charity Walk is scheduled for Oct. 6, starting at the Sikeston Kmart and ending at the VFW Post 3174. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m.

At the end of the walk, there will be a brief presentation, prizes awarded, and a lunch provided to all walkers.

Kenny Rogers Children's Center serves children with special needs from birth through 21 years of age. The center helps children with special needs attend public school, function more independently, and gain the confidence to lead more active and productive lives.

Hadler family reunion scheduled for Oct. 7

The descendants of Henry and Mary Hadler will gather for a Hadler family reunion with a potluck dinner at noon on Oct. 7 at the Zion Lutheran Parish Hall in Longtown, Mo. Families should bring two dishes to share and their own drinks. Table service, coffee and lemonade will be provided.

The next 55 Alive safety driving course will be from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 10 and Oct. 24 at Southeast Missouri Hospital Cancer Center in rooms A and B.

For applications, call Robert Harper at (573) 243-2396. Applications must be turned in by Oct. 5.

Applicants must attend both sessions to pass the course and get credit on their insurance.

Christian concert set for Perryville park

The Perryville Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a "Let Freedom Ring Rally" concert from 2-6 p.m. Oct. 7 in the gymnasium of the Perry Park Center in Perryville, Mo. Local church and school choirs will join the Last Call Gospel singers. The Christian rock group I.O.U. is the featured band.

Ticket prices are $8 per person. All proceeds go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Those wishing to join the volunteer committee, help sponsor, or want ticket information should call the Perry Park Center at (573) 547-7275.

Also, there will be a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Perry Park Center.

Investing program at Cape library Thursday

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will have a program called "Investing for Beginners," presented by T. Ron Hahs, at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Friends of library to hold fund raiser

Annual fund raiser of the Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Foundation. will hold its annual fund raiser from 7-9 p.m. Thursday. An author party will be held at the home of Jerri and John Wyman with Cape Girardeau native David Limbaugh on hand to talk about his writing experiences with his book "Absolute Power."

Tickets are $50 each. Attendees will see a lovely historic downtown home, a sampling of the Wyman Catering's food, a chance to chat with David Limbaugh and an autographed copy of "Absolute Power." Call Betty Martin at 334-5279 to reserve tickets.

All funds raised by the foundation are used to purchase equipment or to support library services that the library budget cannot afford.
