Public library increases fall Sunday hours
At the August board meeting the Cape Girardeau Public Library's board of trustees voted to increase the number of Sundays the library is open. Beginning this Sunday, the library's hours are 1 to 5 p.m. These hours will remain in effect until the Sunday before Memorial Day weekend.
Republican women to meet Friday
The Cape Girardeau County Republican Women's club will hold its monthly meeting at 11:45 a.m. Friday at the Grecian Steak House, beginning with lunch. GOP plans night at Cape County Park
Area Republican organizations are co-sponsoring a night of fun beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at Cape County Park South. A picnic style dinner will be served and donations will be accepted. The event is open to the public and free of charge. For more information, contact Cindie Jeter Yanow at 651-1332.
Skeet shoot, raffle to benefit boy with lymphoma
Cody Ring, the 14-year-old son of Ricky and Sharon Ring of Wolf Lake, Ill., has Burkitt's lymphoma and is scheduled for a bone marrow transplant this month. A benefit to help defray his medical costs will begin with skeet shooting at 4 p.m. Saturday. Food, bingo, raffles and a silent auction will follow at 5 p.m. at Arrowhead Lodge in Wolf Lake, Ill. Drawings for door prizes will be held at 6, 6:30 and 7 p.m.
Perryville elementary to hold school carnival
A craft show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and school carnival with games from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be held Saturday at Perryville Elementary School, 326 College St., Perryville. Everyone is welcome to attend.
AARP group meeting at Grace United Monday
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of AARP will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, Broadway and Caruthers Avenue, Cape Girardeau. The program "Come On, Let's Dance" will be presented by Beth Mueller, line dance instructor. Fried chicken will be provided in Fellowship Hall. Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert.
Big Spring School plans reunion in Jackson
The Big Spring School reunion will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jackson City Park, pavilion No. 2. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish.
Alternative market moving for district fair
The Cape Alternative Farmers Market will move to a temporary location during the SEMO District Fair on Wednesday at the gravel parking lot of the tennis courts and foot bridge at Arena Park, located on West Rodney. The market will return to its previous location between the Arena Building and Kingshighway.
Wilkinson family to meet in Litz Park
At noon Sept. 19, the Wilkinson family reunion will be held at Litz Park in Jackson. Attendees are asked to bring a dish and chairs. A collection will be taken for upkeep of the family cemetery.
Grampa Woo visiting Cape Girardeau
The Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau is handling ticket sales for the Grampa Woo cruises available for departure from Riverfront Park Sept. 22 to Oct 2. The schedule includes a Jazz/Blues Night on the Mississippi from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 22 and 28; afternoon cruises from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 23, 25 and 26, and Oct. 2; an evening dinner and cruise on Sept. 25 and 29.
