Mobile adoption set for Saturday at pet store

The Humane Society of Southeast Missouri will be conducting a mobile adoption from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Petco.

Show Me Day events planned for this weekend

All prospective students and their parents are invited to "Show Me Day" on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Show Me Center.

Reimann-Gerlach families to reunite on Sunday

The 24th annual Reimann-Gerlach reunion will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. A potluck supper will be served at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Egypt Mills. Attendees should bring food, drinks and table service. Entertainment and surprises are planned. For more information, call 334-1384.

Amelunke reunion on tap in Tilsit

Mr. Positive taking on Cape dinner club

Retired teachers learning about Habitat

The Retired Teacher Association will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chateau Girardeau, 3120 Independence St. The October program is Habitat for Humanity. Roy Jones will present the program, followed by a business meeting. The group meets on the first Wednesday, from September through December and March through June. Missionaries raising money for Jamaica

A mission trip to provide medical, dental and optical care for Jamaicans is planned for March 2005. Currently, the mission team is providing assistance to help with repairs needed in the aftermath of Hurricane Frances. A dinner/dance auction to raise funds for the trip is set for Oct. 9 at the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. To attend or donate, call 335-5611.

Thinking caps wanted for trivia night

Jackson Rotary is holding a trivia night at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Jackson Middle School cafeteria. All proceeds will benefit Rotary literacy projects.

Charity walk for children planned in Sikeston

Registration for the 31st Kenny Rogers Children's Center Charity Walk begins at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at Homestead Electronics, 120 S. Main St., Sikeston, Mo. The walk begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at Sikeston VFW Post 3174, where lunch will be provided. This year's youth representative is Zane Trusty of Sikeston. The walk's goal of $30,000 equals $100 for each of the 300 children the center serves.

Items for sale at Emanuel United Oct. 9

A bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 9 will be held at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson. The sale will include crafts and clothes. A soup and salad lunch will be served.

Library seeking residents for services focus group

The Cape Girardeau Public Library is seeking suggestions on improving library services and facilities. Focus groups are planned for 7 p.m. Oct. 13 as well as 1 and 3 p.m. Oct. 14. Both users and non-users of the library are invited to participate. Those interested in attending a focus group should call Betty Martin at 334-5279.

Heritage Association sponsoring holiday tour

Presented by the Jackson Heritage Association and Oliver House Museum, "Holidays With the Olivers" will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 16 at the R.O. Hawkins Junior High School cafeteria. Haunted Hall of Horror comes to Arena Building

To add some scare to the end of October, the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department and River Radio are sponsoring the 2004 Haunted Hall of Horror at the Arena Building. The hall will be open from 7 p.m. to midnight on Oct. 22 and 23, and from 7 to 11 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 31. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Oak Ridge carnival helps after-school programs

The Oak Ridge After School Adventure Club will be holding a Lights On! Afterschool Carnival from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14. A project of the Afterschool Alliance, this not-for-profit public awareness organization works to provide all children and youths with after-school programs by 2010. Members of the community will be asked to sign paper light bulbs which will be delivered to the state legislature to encourage continuing funding of after school programs.

Radio program airing on KFVS12 history

The KRCU Going Public radio program will air Sunday at 3 p.m. on 90.9 FM KRCU. Guests include Dennis Slinkard, Don McNeely and Jim Hirsch. The panel will discuss the 50-year history of KFVS12 Television. Going Public is hosted by Tom Harte and Chris Schnell. The program airs every Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

American Heart Association Changes Walk Date

Dates have changed for the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. It was originally scheduled for Oct. 30, but will now begin at 9 a.m. on Nov. 6 at Capaha Park. The non-competitive three mile walk is sponsored by Southeast Missouri Hospital and raises funds to support heart disease and stroke research and educational programs in the Cape Girardeau community.
