The descendants of Wilhelm and Caroline Wedekind Fluegge will have a family reunion beginning with a basket dinner at noon Sunday at Immanuel Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 496 Route F, Jackson, near Tilsit. Trail of Tears sets August programs
Trail of Tears State Park has planned the following events for August: Saturday at 10 a.m. a Creek Walk, followed by aluminum can critters at 7 p.m. at Wescoat shelter; Sunday at 2 p.m. will be Lewis and Clark discovery game at Wescoat shelter; Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. will be a presentation titled "Camou-flauge: The color of life"; at 10 a.m. Aug. 14 will be a program on American Indian lifeways, followed by a 7:30 p.m. program on bats; meet at the river access parking lot and bring a lawn chair for Fish Fact Finding on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.; Wampum making at Greensferry shelter will begin at 2 p.m. Aug. 21, followed by mammals of Missouri at 7 p.m.; a park scavenger hunt starting at the Overlook Road gate will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 27; at 9 a.m. on Aug. 28, a natural area hike will begin at Peewah Trailhead at Overlook Gate, followed by a 7 p.m. program on recycled jewelry. Friedrich family eating at Delmonico's Aug. 15
Descendants of Jacob and Marguerita Friedrich will gather from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 for a family reunion at Delmonico's restaurant in Jackson. Guests are asked to bring old photos, newspaper clippings of the family and instruments for entertaining.
Registration ongoing for Jackson talent show
The annual Jackson Homecomers talent show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 17 with vocal talent acts ages 13 to 21. At 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18 vocal talent acts ages 6 to 13 will take the stage, followed by dancing or other talent acts ages 6 to 21 on Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. First through fourth place winners will be chosen each night on the stage in front of the Jackson courthouse. Winners and runners-up in each category will compete Aug. 21 for prizes. The overall winner of the 13 to 21 age group will be invited to the Youth Talent Contest at the MidSouth Fair, Memphis, Tenn. A representative from the fair will be in Jackson on finals night and may invite others to participate at the MidSouth Fair. Amateur acts are invited to attend. There is no piano and the stage is outdoors. Talent show entry forms are due by Wednesday. Participation is on a first come, first serve basis. For more information, call 243-8131.
St. Joseph Parish plans homecoming and picnic
Any all-you-can-eat kettle cooked beef and fried chicken dinner will be served from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4 at St. Joseph Parish in Apple Creek. Directions are Interstate 55 to Biehle exit, south on Route B, then left on Route F. Ice cream, country store, fancy stand, Bingo, games, drawings for prizes, dancing in the beer garden and music by Doug and Mitch are features of the event. Children under 6 eat free. Air-conditioned dining is provided.
